Have you wondered how to tag someone in a status post on FB?

Easy :-) You simply put the @ symbol before the name of the person and then you select the right person from the drop down list. Read more about this function in Facebooks’ blog.

Do you experience frustration when working in WordPress and not being able to add line breaks the way you want to?

I just Googled and found a nice little trick at WordPress-a-licious’ site: read more here.

What you do is simply use the HTML editor and add:

&nbsp;<br>
&nbsp;<br>
&nbsp;<br>

wherever you want the line breaks to appear.

Once you are there, continue to work in the HTML-editor, otherwise your changes will disappear again.

I know. WP is not the most intuitive tool. But thanks to you, all writers on the Internet, there is hope for the rest of us :-)

Do you know of any other tricks to force line breaks?

Last year I payes a visit to leadership guru Anthony Robbins new site and found a really nice tool for self assessment, based on the DISC model:

Link to the Personal Strengths Profile

Click the image above to take the test.

Since I am on the lookout for a new job I took this test and I really resonated with the results. The content of the two reports you receive from taking the test was well structured and really provided me with a new insight in how I work, what makes me “click” and what natural talents I have (among other things). I really suggest that you give it a go, if you are curious to find out more about yourself (then again, who isn’t?).

Also pay a visit to Jay Niblick at What’s your genious, the guy behind this tool. He has produced some videos that give an in-depth explanation of the test results. Enjoy :-)

As hard as it is to understand, Facebook is not very user friendly when it comes to some of the functions.

Here are the url:s (adresses) you need to create groups or pages:

Groups: http://www.facebook.com/groups

Pages: http://www.facebook.com/pages

Read more in Facebooks own blog about the difference between the two and when to use them.

I have just installed and currently use a free software from Gadwin Systems, called Gadwin PrintScreen. The cool thing with this tool is that it allows me to choose between shots of:

  • the entire screen
  • the active window
  • part of a window
  • a rectangular area.

You can also change the image size and format, ad a shadow or much more. Works just fine.

Below I’ve just captured a part of their site:

Are you new to blogging?
There is a sea of software to choose from. When I first started out I Googled my way through the web to see what other people used for their blogs, and what they thought about them. I have really only tried out WordPress and Blogger/Blogspot. You might get confused in the beginning, what is the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org for example? I actually started out with WordPress.com where I created my first blog hosted at WordPress. It took me quite a while to settle into all the “how-to’s” and get familiar with the dashboard and all the settings, plugins, themes e t c.

Soon I wanted to dig more into the design of my blog. In the mid-90ies I actually learned the basics of using html  (those were the days: modems, Netscape and DOS – duh! :-) ). Having the possibility to alter the code at times have helped me tremendously. Freedom, freedom, freedom. The next step for me was to install WordPress at my own domain, using the guidance at WordPress.org. They call it their famous 5-minute installation. If you are not really a mini-hacker (as I call it), then don’t bother. Or get help :-)

I privately blog on Blogger. I chose this alternative because it’s easy to set up and use (and I don’t care about the web address in that case). The templates  are also easy to use, however there have been problems with loading the pages at times.

So why WordPress now?

  • I wanted my own domain
  • I want this blog to be perceived as a professional site.
  • I will use this blog to showcase how I work professionally and privately, constantly on the lookout for new applications and work methods. Here I can show clients and employers how I write and use the words, also in a foreign language. Walk the talk so to say.

There are a million things to be said about WordPress and other software. This was an essay like update. I will try to keep it shorter in the future :-)

Just found a brilliant application which helps me to automatically forward my blog updates into my Facebook page for this site. Check out RSS Graffiti.

This is the first tool I try out in this category. It is really easy to understand. Just follow the instructions on the site. Note, you need to know the RSS feed address of your site. In my case it is the site address/feed/.

Do you use any similar applications? Pro’s and con’s?

The other day I was thinking about how I could help my 7 year old son advance within a subject and be a little bit ahead of the others. In mathematics they have not really dug into anything deep, so I thought we could make a jump start with multiplication.

Initially I searched for a simple picture of a table where you have 1-10 on both axis. However, I ended up at Big Brainz and fell completely in love with their idea of making it fun to learn multiplication: Timez Attack.

I downloaded the free version, and since my son really loved the game I bought the full version. It is a little bit tough for him in the beginning, so he needs to have me by his side to remember quickly before the troll hits him in the head :-) . However, it will not be long until he really has learned how to advance in the game. Pure learning. Very cleverly put together. Thank you Ben Harrison and the rest of the crew at BB, love it, love it, love it!
